Vacation Dog Bumper – While many fans have memorized every line from “National Lampoon’s Vacation,” it turns out that some behind-the-scenes scenes are memorable.
To celebrate the anniversary of the film’s July 29, 1983 release, here are 20 things you may not know about the original Holiday.

1. Anthony Michael Hall, who played Rusty Griswold, was in puberty at the time of filming. He grew three inches during production and as a result was different in height throughout the film.

2. The film was written by John Hughes (who wrote other ’80s novels such as The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles) and is based on his story Holiday ’58, which was published in National Lampoon magazine in 1979.
3. Filming for Vacation required real travel for the cast and crew. The film was shot in more than 15 locations in four states.
4. Vacation is the only R-rated movie in the series. In the DVD commentary for the film, director Harold Ramis stated that he was concerned that the comedy style of National Lampoon might be too much for his directorial style and stated that the scene in St. Louis was more ashamed of it, calling it “the most wrong political system. ” Count. I’ve seen it.” I’ve recorded it.”
5. The Queen’s Wagon family’s five wagons were used in rotation during the production of the film, which allowed each one to be changed separately to account for wear and tear on the wagons during the Griswolds’ travels.

6. During a scene early in the movie, Clark (Chevy Chase) helps Ellen (Beverly D’Angelo) clean the dishes, but he never washes them or puts them in the dishwasher. Instead, he simply wipes them with a rag and puts them back in the cabinet. Chase said it was one of his favorite parts of the movie, but he said many fans of the movie didn’t notice it.
7. In the family music scene, Chase noticed that Beverly D’Angelo was a great singer. Before the Break, she starred in the 1979 musical Hair.
8. During the scene at the gas station where Clark is trying to find a gas station attendant, Chase doesn’t intend to throw away the license plate when he pulls it out. The plate flew up behind her and almost hit the player who was standing on the front fan. The worried look on Chase’s face afterward was true.
9. Christie Brinkley was a star in the modeling industry when production began and the studio wanted to cast her in the movie. While she only appeared in a few scenes, she traveled with the actors and actresses for most of the shoot. Vacation is her first feature film and she will be reprising her role from 1997’s Vegas Vacation.

10. Randy Quaid-based Cousin Eddie’s trademark tongue-click on a kid he knew in high school and mark every place in the text where he wants to add the sound.
12. Imogen Coca, who played Aunt Edna, hesitated to take the role because she was worried that she would not be able to play a bad character. “She was one of the sweetest women in the world,” Chase later told Coke. However, producer Matty Simmons asked Coca to take on the role, assuring her that she was an outstanding actress who could play any role.
13. Chase and James Keech, who works as a highway patrol officer, improvise many scenes where the two realize that Clark accidentally killed Aunt Edna’s dog, Dinky, by forgetting to unleash it later. They both try not to laugh during the scene.
14. Stunt coordinator Dick Zicker made a bet with the rest of the crew that he could jump the family car more than 50 feet during a desert scene. Zicker won the bet.
Barbara Banke: Queen Of The Vine
15. Lindsay Buckingham’s “Holiday Road”, which was the theme song of the film, reached number 82 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart due to the popularity of the film.
16. During Clark and Rusty’s father-son scene where the two share a beer, the beer may actually be empty and they both pretend to take swigs from it.
17. In Hughes’ original script, Clark arrives at Wally’s World only to find the park closed and the Griswolds go to Roy Wally’s (played by Eddie Bracken) house to pick him up with the big brass. This ending was filmed in its entirety, but was ultimately scrapped because it was not successful with test audiences. Director Harold Ramis believed that the ending was unsuccessful because the film relied on the promise of seeing Wally’s world and the audience felt cheated by the return. As a result, Ramis wrote an ending for Hughes where the Griswolds steal the park. For the rewritten scene, they cast John Candy as Laski, one of the park rangers, in what would be one of the film’s biggest roles. Then the actors and actresses went back and shot a new ending and cut it into the original movie. According to Ramis, test sales went through the roof once the ending changed.
19. Filmed in the parking lot of Wally World at Santa Anita Raceway in Arcadia, California. It was over 100 degrees during filming and the scene required the actors to run from the car to the park entrance. Hall said he remembers actually trying to beat Chase in the race to the door, but Chase had eight inches on him at the time.

Over the past ten years, my family has taken many trips with our 75-pound German shepherd. Over the years, we’ve tried various living arrangements—and packing—to keep one and animal in safety and comfort. Some solutions:
The roof box I had for years worked fine in a station wagon, but when I switched to an SUV, it prevented the hatch from opening wide enough to allow Shalom to get into the back of my car.
Fortunately, there are luggage boxes—check the Yakima and Thule websites—designed to work with today’s hatchbacks.

By releasing a few pins, the box moves away from the vehicle, allowing full access to the cargo area.
After struggling to fit an old dog and a dog runner in my SUV at the same time, I found the TwisteP, a 22-by-19-inch rubber covered step with a short handle that fits on a trailer.
When the dog doesn’t need it, you turn it over to the car to ride under the rear bumper. When your dog needs it, the quick release pin allows him to walk away from your car, where he will click into place to follow your vehicle.

“Risk and stress prevention are very different,” says Lindsay Volkow, founder of the Center for Animal Safety, an independent watchdog group that conducts independent tests of tether products (which are not prescribed ).
“You can go to your local big box retailer and get an anti-anxiety device for less than $20, but it won’t protect you, your family or your pets if you’re in a car accident.”
Crates: The Gunner Kennel G1’s hole-in-one is mounted with sturdy straps. It is shown in advertisements on the bed of trucks, but the center advises owners to keep the box in the cab – and not to put the dog in the box on top of the truck or in the trailer behind the truck.
Taking the soft side: SleepiPod Mobile Pet Bed with PPRS Handle and PetEgo FormaFrame Jet Set with Isofix-Latch Connection pass the test when fastened with a seat belt. They can also be stored in the cargo area of an SUV, Volkow said.
