Located on the south coast, between East Sussex on one side and Hampshire on the other, West Sussex is one of the most accessible coastal areas from London, with many dog-friendly beaches all year round, even in summer. This means you can enjoy a day at the beach with your dog in less than two hours from London whenever you want.

The Best Dog Friendly Beaches In Sydney
We’ve been busy visiting lots of Sussex beaches (a must have) and when compiling this list we considered a number of factors… the beach itself, any dog restrictions, how easy it is to get to London and so on. dog friendly service nearby. Although the beach has dog-friendly facilities, be sure to bring water for your dog to stay hydrated, and even a coat or bandana if you think it’s necessary.
So here are some of West Sussex’s favorite dog-friendly beaches and some important information you need to know to make the most of your pup’s day out.
Top tip: When planning a beach day, don’t forget to check the possible tide times at this site – if your pup isn’t used to the sea, it’s best to visit at low tide. Make sure you visit at low or high tide and the beach is rocky or sandy, there’s an unbeatable feeling when you’re “on the beach”… with your dog, of course.
Littlehampton West Beach is one of the places you’ll find sandy beaches in West Sussex (the best is at dog-friendly Camber Sands in East Sussex). Located next to the Aron River, the west coast stretches for miles before reaching Climping (more on that later). In Littlehampton, there are two beaches – east and west, one on either side of the river. East Beach is reserved for swimming in the summer, which is only fair because the dogs at West Beach also have a beach reserved for them. You can reach the beach by walking past the West Beach Cafe or by taking the wooden walkway through the sand dunes behind the cafe (our preference).

It may not be as famous as some, but it is a great beach to visit with dogs thanks to the wide beach, cool wooden Perch Cafe in Lansing Beach and a large green area behind the beach where dogs can run around. The kennel has a resident dog, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating for people and dogs, and a varied menu for lunch or dinner (dinner available in summer).
Another great dog friendly beach with a very popular dog cafe that we specifically came to check out… Bluebird Cafe. The cafe has a real beach feel and is colorful and welcoming to people and dogs. You’ll also find rows of cute beach huts on the sand – not quite the caliber of the West Wittering Beach Huts, but great for photos.
The coast is the quickest to reach from London by train and like all its West Sussex counterparts, it offers miles of dog-friendly shingle beaches all year round. But after beach time, we are always looking for a dog-friendly cafe, and since there is no stop at the beach, we recommend taking the train one stop to Lansing Beach, see #2 above.
Klimping Beach is the beach you should stay away from. It feels peaceful and remote, although it is the next beach from the west coast of Littlehampton, which can be walked in an hour (just remember that you have to drive even if you have left the car in Climping). We pretty much had the beach to ourselves apart from a few other swimmers and dog walkers, so it’s a great beach to visit if your dog needs some space.
Of The Best Dog Friendly Beaches To Visit This Summer
The dogs even have a ‘dog friendly car park’ when you arrive which is a great treat! In fact, this is because the car park and beach to the left as you enter is a place for dogs, and the car park and beach to the right is the place to be in front. There is plenty of parking and a small cafe in a converted shipping shed with a grassy area outside.
As far as dog-friendly beaches in West Sussex go, West Whiting Beach is the same as the dog-friendly Camber Sands in the West, although it is the furthest from London in this guide and the most difficult to reach by public transport. However, in summer, dogs are not allowed between hills 14a and 18, where there are beautiful beach huts. East Head still has plenty of places for dogs to enjoy the beach all year round, just a short walk from the beach hut and around the corner. However, in general, the beach gets very crowded during summer days, so maybe one of them can be used on a hot weekday or at the end of summer.

This is definitely a hike that requires proper planning as it is about 3 miles to get there. With rock pools, waterfalls, caves and sand at low levels, there are plenty of fun things to do for your dog!
