Best Dog Friendly York – If you’re looking for a fun, dog-friendly campsite in the North York Moors, I highly recommend the luxury camping pods at Fox and Hounds.
At this point I was well into my 10 week ‘Walk in the Parks’ adventure. So, I had the pleasure of putting my feet up and relaxing in my cozy, comfortable little capsule.

After a few days spent with friends and staying at the Black Swan, it was my fourth day hiking the North York Moors. Although it may not have the glamor of luxury hotel rooms, there is something very appealing about this classic wooden pod in the heart of the beautiful North York countryside.

During this part of my trip, Cookie and I were at the bar with the lovely Nicola and her partner. Both write for the renowned local publication Esk Valley News; so it’s a good idea to take a break from the walk and catch up on everything that’s being written and the incredible local publications they’re producing.

Walking along the beach you can see across the sea with absolutely uninterrupted beautiful views, I can’t wait for a beach during my last days in this national park. On one side, all the drama of the steppes, and on the other, the incredibly clear blue sea.
You can walk along the beaches or follow the famous Cleveland Way National Trail. The road continues along the cliffs, taking you to the most dramatic and daring landscapes.
Whichever route you choose, keep an eye out for whales and dolphins, which are known to visit Yorkshire from time to time!

On our visit to the North York Moors we decided to stay in simple camping pods at the classic, traditional country hotel Fox and Hounds.
In fact, the history of Fox and Hounds dates back to 1555 and the Inn has been strongly associated with the Moors of North York for hundreds of years.
Right on the hotel’s doorstep, you have access to numerous local walking paths as well as national trails, bridleways and cycle paths; You will have a hard time choosing!
We have electricity, beds and other necessary facilities in the capsules. Although the bathrooms are across the property, we each have our own shower, toilet and sink. So I still felt special (we just did a little extra walking!).

Pods offer us a new experience as a comfortable hotel room is always nice. Additionally, Fox and Hounds is a site known as Dark Sky Friendly. This means the capsules are perfectly positioned to take in all the splendor of the Moors’ night sky. By the way, night flashlights, binoculars and sky maps are also available for guests’ use at the hotel.
After a long day of walking, we were happy to return to the hotel for a proper pub meal.
Nicola and her partner joined us at the bar and although we were too late to take part in the bar’s quiz night, the bar was packed to capacity!
It’s got great vibes and – despite being busy – the food is great. The entire menu features locally sourced, seasonal produce and hearty home-cooked meals. You can also choose from seasonal specials that change daily or reserve a seat at the popular Sunday lunch.

Fox and Hound is also pretty good at drinking. From the traditional bar you can choose from a wide range of regional real ales, premium wines or your favorite spirits. However, after 4 weeks, I continued with coke and did not drink even a drop of alcohol.
You can also head to the bar for breakfast to prepare you for a day full of walking. However I had to leave at dawn that morning to start walking again, so I’ll have to try the breakfast on my next visit!
Just a short drive from the Fox and the Hounds, you can explore the charming, historic fishing villages of the Yorkshire coast.
