Kendre is a senior majoring in communications and journalism at Austin Peay State University. She enjoys bonding with her English Shepherd/best friend Jack as she is rarely without him. When Kendra isn’t working, blogging, or repairing her Jeep, you can find Kendra out in the woods pretending to be a skilled yogi. On our way to and from the BlogPaws conference in Kansas City, we stopped in a quiet, historic town. Lock Haven, PA. It’s a very dog-friendly town with a beautiful river running through it. The city is also home to Lock Haven University, which has nearly 4,000 students. The William Klinger Riverwalk is a 2.25 square foot boardwalk. The river is actually a levee that protects Lock Harbor from the west branch of the Susquehanna River.
The Riverwalk is a beautiful long walk that’s very dog-friendly and perfect for long walks. We love visiting Locke Haven because the trails provide a great way for us and the dogs to get some exercise and have fun when we stop in between longer walks. I will definitely visit this dog-friendly town just for this beautiful valley!
It’s late winter in these photos, but it’s even more beautiful in the summer because all the trees are in bloom. I hope to visit later in the fall when the bright autumn foliage is in bloom across the Northeast. I know it’s going to be great here!
Lockport is not a busy town. There are small shops and restaurants, but it’s a very quiet little college town. That’s what we like. It’s quiet and peaceful here and you can enjoy the riverfront and beautiful architecture without having to worry about people or finding a place to park.

On a cross-country trip from Phoenix to New York, we discovered a dog-friendly hotel just off Interstate 80. I was lucky enough to find a pet-friendly Best Western hotel in town. Lock Haven, PA. Discovering this town and hotel was one of our happy accidents when planning a cross-country road trip with our two dogs! We have stayed at the Best Western 4 times in the past few years and we love it. The staff are very friendly and helpful and of course they welcome their pets!
The room was updated, clean and very comfortable. They also offer free breakfast. The best thing about this hotel is that it is within walking distance of the Riverwalk. We had a great time at the Best Hotel in the West and will definitely be back soon! When I find a great hotel that truly welcomes dogs, I try to return to that hotel again and again on multiple road trips with dogs. During the summer, Lock Haven hosts many riverfront events, including a free summer concert series on the Riverfront Floating Stage! We love visiting Lock Haven, PA, it truly is a safe haven and a great break from the big cities surrounding Pittsburgh and Philadelphia! Share it!
