I’ve compiled a list of the best dog walks in Utah and would love to hear all about your favorite spots.

Dog Friendly Utah Road Trip

A paradise for water-loving dogs in Salt Lake City and Park City, Bloods Lake and Lake Lachkawaxen are short, accessible trails on the east side of Guardsman Pass behind Big Cottonwood Canyon. Two lakes offer cool water for swimming and playing, and the 3-mile loop is perfect for relaxing after days in the mountains. Dogs can run and run and run to their heart’s content here. This trail is behind Big Cottonwood Canyon where dogs are not allowed, so keep your dog in the car until you reach the back of Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Leave the city behind for a day and head to Millcreek for a scenic river cruise with Fido. The Bowman Fork Trail is 6 miles into the canyon and you’ll love it for its beautiful scenery, wildflowers, and rugged terrain. Your dog will love the river and the shade. A total of 8.6 miles out and back. Dogs can be lethargic on perfect days.

Although the name is incongruous (Negro Bill Canyon is named after black explorer and ranger William Granstaff), the hike is popular with canyoners and locals alike. The trail follows a dog-friendly creek, and the cottonwoods and birch trees provide a pleasant respite from the hot Utah sun. After two kilometers of easy walking, you will find the Morning Glory Bridge, a natural stone made of 243 stones. This is only a hiking trail, so don’t risk getting run over by horses or mountain bikers. Arches National Park doesn’t allow dogs, so it’s a great place to bring your canine friend if you’re in the area.

Hunter Canyon Trail is a great option for dog owners who enjoy camping and hiking. Unlike Arches National Park, dogs are welcome in Hunter Canyon. You can camp at one of the nine campsites at the bottom of the canyon and then hike up to the bottom of the canyon. The river flows above the road and you can always jump over it if your dog runs and falls in it. The Hunter Canyon Trail is a very easy 5.4 mile out and back hike that offers shade, water, and beautiful views of the canyon.

Park City residents love Round Valley in the winter—it’s the best place for skiing—and dogs love it year-round for the open space. Round Valley offers over 30 trails and your dog can run wild throughout the valley. Watch out for mountain bikers, but due to the size of the valley and its extensive trail system, you won’t see many people. Sage and oak dominate the landscape and there isn’t much shade or water, so be prepared for hot days.

If you want to explore Zion National Park with your dog, you have only one choice; Fortunately, this is a very good thing! The Pa’rus Trail is the park’s only dog-friendly trail and is an easy 5.5-mile walk along a paved path along the Virgin River (“Pa-rus” is the Paiute word for “river water”). You will see lots of beautiful wildflowers, swarms of bees and beautiful views of Zion. Try the Pa’rus Trail at sunrise or sunset, or during the cooler months. The road can get hot on summer days.

It is one of several arches in the area, most of which are located in Arches National Park. Since dogs are not allowed in the national park, this is a great alternative! The trail is about 2.5 miles out and back and 482 feet. This road offers stunning views of the red rock canyons and another small arch. Although there are difficult obstacles, all ages can do this hike, and so can your dogs. If you are concerned about certain areas, such as a small ladder, it would be a good idea to put a hand leash on your dog. There is little shade on this trail if you plan to hike in the warmer months. Start early and bring sunscreen and plenty of water for everyone and the dog in the group!

Wall Lake is located in Kamas on Mirror Lake Road. This scenic route is full of beautiful landscapes and lakes. This is one of our favorite hikes in the Uinta Mountains! It’s 2.5 miles out and back with 147 feet of elevation gain. Some of the many reasons I love this trail is that it’s a great hike for all ages, dogs can be off leash, it can make your hike longer. walking distance to several other lakes around Wall Lake and a great place to cool off on a hot summer day!

The Best Dog Friendly Guide To Monument Valley

Lower Calf Creek Falls is located in Grand Escalante National Monument near Boulder, UT. This is one of the longest hikes on the list, but it’s a must-see if you’re in the area! The trail is 6 miles and returns with about 200 feet of elevation gain. You start this scenic journey walking between two tall red rock walls and end at 126 feet. it falls in the middle of the desert. While walking through the canyon, there are several stops that tell the history of the canyon and provide maps along the way. I highly recommend bringing sunscreen, bug spray and plenty of water. There is very little shade during the day and the canyon can be unbearably hot. If you start early, you might get yourself a little piece of heaven!

Stewart Falls is near Sundance at the top of Provo Canyon. This is a great family outing, but can get very busy on the weekends. The trail is about 5.5 miles out and back with about 650 feet of elevation gain. If you want an autumn delicacy, this is one of my favorite autumn recipes! In the spring and summer, it’s a great place to cool off while enjoying the amazing views on every hike. After your hike, I highly recommend riding the alpine tube if you want more views!

The Golden Wall Bridge is located in Red Canyon near Bryce Canyon. If you have pups with you, this is the most amazing Bryce Canyon tour! This hike is approximately 2.1 miles with 615 feet of elevation gain. This is a great family and dog outing. While walking along this road, we saw some people. The trip was scenic and quiet, but we left early in the morning. There is little shade on this trail if you plan to hike in the warmer months. Start early, bring sunscreen and lots of water for everyone and the group dog!
