Dog Friendly Day Trips From Nyc
Clermont State Historic Site lets your four-legged friends roam through more than 500 acres of landscaped gardens, meadows and forests. You can walk five miles of marked nature trails and three miles of marked boardwalk (open daily 8:30 a.m. to dusk) or simply sunbathe on the picnic deck and enjoy the view of the Livingston-like river. One of our most famous parks is The Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park in Poughkeepsie. This place is a paradise for dog lovers. You’ll see maroons of all sizes and shapes walking with their owners 212 feet above the Hudson River. Be careful on those very hot summer days when pavement temperatures are too hot for soft waves. Other dog-friendly parks include: Ferncliff Forest and Drayton Grant Park in Burger Hill in Rhinebeck and Dover Stone Church in Dover Plains. Not what you expected? Perhaps surprisingly, there is a lot of overlap between craft drinkers and dog people. When you’re looking for a place to grab a craft brew with your dog, there are plenty of places to choose from, including Obercreek Brewing Company in Wappingers Falls. You’ll find good tunes, good beer and a relaxed atmosphere Other breweries that welcome well-behaved and well-behaved dogs to their outdoor locations include Plan B Farm Brewery in Poughkeepsie and Black Snake Brewing Company in Stassettsburg.

If your dog is a beach lover (because who isn’t?), we’ve found ten dog-friendly beaches near NYC where your dog can play in the sand and cool off in the salt water. You can choose from popular or secluded beaches where your dog can meet new friends or work on his Frisbee game. Pack your beach blanket, sunscreen, plenty of water and a doggie bag and get ready for a fun outdoor adventure with your pet.
Located in Montauk, New York, Shadmoor State Park is the perfect destination for you and your furry friend. About a three-hour drive outside of New York City, this state park offers beach access, hiking trails, and an observation deck. Dogs must be supervised at all times, but can run on beaches and swim in the ocean on a leash no longer than six feet. Grab a blanket and picnic basket and spend the day on the sand, bird watching or just enjoying the beautiful scenery.
An easy drive from New York City, Rockaway Beach boasts the only legal surfing beach in the city, a boardwalk, and several restaurants. Dogs are not allowed on the sand or boardwalk from Memorial Day to Labor Day, but in the off-season when there are fewer people and the temperature is a little cooler. After a long day of letting your dog explore the beach and play in the sand, head to the dog-friendly Rockaway Beach Surf Club for tacos and drinks. Rockaway Beach is easily accessible year-round by car, subway and ferry.
Looking for a place where your four-legged friend can roam free and enjoy Mother Nature? Look no further than Prospect Park in Brooklyn. The park offers special relaxation time for dogs from 6:00 am to 9:00 am and 9:00 pm. 1 am with plenty of space on the grass for them to play. What makes this park special is the dog beach, where dogs can cool off in the water, dig in the sand and meet new friends. Dog Beach is located north of Long Meadow Ballfields and is accessible by subway and car.
Dog Friendly Copenhagen: Visiting Copenhagen With A Dog
It’s time to travel. Get in the car and drive two hours to Gardiner County Park on Long Island’s Bay Shore. Featuring trails that meander through wetlands and forests, this public park is the perfect spot for a secluded spot to explore nature with your pet. Dogs must be kept on a lead, but Great South Lake has plenty of trails, a water fountain for dogs, and a small beach to explore.
Are you ready to go to the beach? Fisherman’s Cove Conservation Area in Manasquan, New Jersey is the perfect place for some quiet time with Fido. The eastern part of the complex is considered a dog beach and allows your four-legged friend to swim in the water and relax on the sand. Dogs have to stay on their feet to protect the marine environment, but that doesn’t stop them from enjoying the sun. Fisherman’s Cove Conservation Area is about an hour and a half’s drive from New York and has several restaurants, bars and other beaches nearby.
Watch footage of the famous hurricane and grab a hot dog at Nathan’s Famous and enjoy Coney Island beach time. Since dogs are not allowed on the lake during the summer months, you need to get there between October and May to enjoy the three miles of sandy beach. All dogs must be neutered and cannot swim in the water, but can be walked on the trails year-round. Take a quick hour and a half subway ride from New York and enjoy all that Coney Island has to offer.
About a two and a half hour drive from New York, Wildwood Dog Park and the beach are definitely worth a trip to New Jersey. Your dog can roam in two fenced areas, one for large dogs and one for small dogs. The park is about two blocks long and dogs are welcome every year for a swim in the water or in the sand. If you want your pup to have free reign on the water and sand, this is the place to visit.

If you’re looking for a break from the city, a trip to a dog-friendly New England beach is the perfect escape. Hammonasset Beach State Park on Long Island Sound in Madison, Connecticut offers two miles of beach fun. Dogs are welcome to walk all year round, except on the beach, where they are only allowed from November to April. Take your pup on a two-hour drive to explore this charming Connecticut beach.
