Favorite Pet Friendly Lodging In New England

Follow VT 100 north 3.2 miles from Stowe to Randolph Road. Turn right and follow for 0.5 miles. Turn right onto Moss Glen Falls Road and follow 0.5 miles to a small parking area.

This is a very short, but beautiful hike to an amazing waterfall. Although the path is not well marked, the path is clear. Follow the flow of the waterfall. Be careful when falling, because the debris on the road can be slippery and dangerous. Inexperienced hikers should stay on the left side above the falls. The trail connects to a major snowmobile trail so be careful not to take the wrong trail.

From the Trapp Family Lodge, take Route 100 north toward Moscow Road. Take a right onto Moscow Road and then a left onto Cottonbrook Road. Follow it for about two miles to the Cotton Brook entrance to Mount Mansfield State Forest. The parking lot is on the right. The trail starts at the red gate on the road. The loop passes several old farm and mill sites and offers views of the reservoir and Bolton Range. (If you see a moose, have fun — but stay safe.)

From Trapp Family Lodge, take Trapp Hill to Luce Hill Road. Go down Luce Hill and turn left. From there, it is about nine miles to the Long Trail parking area, which is at the top of Notch Road. Parking is on the left and right. The road is on the right. The path to the lake follows the Sterling Pond Trail. You can loop around the pond by following the Elephant Head Trail, but be careful to return to the Sterling Pond Trail to descend back to the trail.

You can do a more challenging loop by hiking the Long Trail at Route 108 and returning via the Sterling Pond Trail, then walking on Route 108. There are great views from Sterling Pond (over 3,000 feet). See the Long Trail Guide for more information.

From Trapp Family Lodge, take Trapp Hill Rd to Luce Hill Rd. Take Luce Hill Road to Vt. 108. Right Vt. 108. Turn left onto Vt-100 N (0.1 mi). Take the third right onto School Street and a slight right onto Stowe Hallow Road. Left to stay on Bear Stove Hello Road. Continue along Upper Hallow Road and park in the small car park. The Stowe Pinnacle Trail is relatively short but steep, with an open bald summit where you can see the green mountains to the west – including the Camel’s Hump, Bolton Range, Nebraska Notch, Mount Mansfield, Sterling Mountain Range and Worcester Range. You can see Hogback Mountain to the southeast, which you can reach via the Hogback Trail.

From Trapp Family Lodge, take Trapp Hill Rd. to Luce Hill Rd. Go down Luce Hill Rd and turn left. After about one mile, turn right onto Edson Hill Rd. Turn right on Edson Hill and pass the Stowhof Inn entrance. Take the next drive on your right and park in the parking lot.
