We were always hesitant to travel to the Zion National Park area on our Utah trip because, like most national parks, Zion isn’t exactly “dog friendly.” On our last trip, we decided we wanted to give it a try and stayed at the pet-friendly Zion White Bison. Located just a mile from the park’s west entrance, we used it as a base camp to drive into the park and explore all the dog-friendly spots on either side of the entrance. All I can say is – I’m sure we finally decided to go and even though there weren’t many dog friendly activities in the park – there are GOLDEN right outside.
We stayed at the pet friendly Cliff Dwelling at Zion White Bison and loved it. Modeled after ancient Anasazi kivas, our dog-friendly Cliff Dwelling had the most inviting and colorful decor and was equipped with a king size bed, living room with sofa and TV, full kitchen, bathroom and upper deck with dining table and fireplace , grill and Our very own PRIVATE hot tub overlooking the beautiful peaks and canyons around us!

Zion White Bison was rated one of the top 5 resorts in America, they have pet friendly covered wagons, Tipis and Cliff Dwellings and now I can’t wait to plan a return trip! While Zion National Park itself doesn’t have many pet-friendly trails, the drive through the park alone is spectacular and there are SO MANY dog-friendly adventures on both sides of the park.
Snow Canyon State Park – (note that the park requires admission for most trails) We loved how red the rock was throughout this park and had the best time exploring the countless trails, caves, petrified dunes, hollows and mini. gorge of the castle.
Pink Coral Sand Dunes National Park – (entrance fee required) These dunes are estimated to be 10,000 to 15,000 years old and here you can rent ATVs or sand boards to ride around the dunes, but we enjoyed just walking and playing in the sand!
Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness/Kanab Area – this 112,500-acre wilderness area is full of hikes, canyons, rock formations, and carved hills, and the possibilities for dog-friendly adventure are endless! It was a little wet and the roads were a little washed out and the canyons were flooded when we visited so we had to make some last minute changes to the plan – but there’s no shortage of things to do here!
Planning A Dog Friendly Trip To Moab, Utah
After spending the days exploring, we would return to our rocks and watch the sun set from the rooftop hot tub. The Zion White Bison property is full of character and even has its own herd of white bison (a calf was born two days after we left) that you can visit as well. The white bison is an extremely rare and sacred animal, and just a generation ago, one in 10 million bison was born white. Currently, an estimated one in a million is white. The resort aims to be a sanctuary for these sacred animals and it was so much fun spending time with them!
