We started our journey in Seattle, Washington at 2:30 in the morning. Cooper’s dad, my husband, did most of the driving – he prepared himself for the hard drive first by getting a full 5 hours of sleep. We arrived in southern Oregon at sunrise. The first stop was at a gas station where we filled up, went to the bathroom, and fed Cooper and Saatchi (it was their breakfast time). Then we continue our road trip.
Our first full stop was at the Edelman Peony Garden in Salem, Oregon. He has an extensive collection of peonies covering 25 acres in the Willamette Valley. The best part is that they are dog friendly! We arrived here in early June, before the peak of the flowers. However, our time here was well worth it, and the peonies were beautiful – we learned about Pestelegans and they cost $167 per stem (one of the cheaper peonies).
After the Peony Garden, we got back in the car and headed to Portland, Oregon. It’s very hot in Portland, which gave us enough reason to stop at Wailua Shave Ice. The shaved ice here is always delicious and a definite Portland stop. Second place was Nong’s Rice Noodles – we ordered ginger rice and asked for chicken skin, which made the whole meal even better.
Dog Friendly Dc: Visiting Washington, D.c. With A Dog
After our refreshing stop in Oregon, we prepared ourselves for the final leg. It was around 4:00pm when we arrived at Cedarbrook Lodge SeaTac. The check-in process was easy, and we got a room in the Dogwood area with a king-size bed and a bathtub. The room had all the amenities we needed and there was a lounge area outside our room. It was the perfect place for us after driving 12+ hours; The lodge is warm and welcoming – truly a home away from home. The best part about Cedarbrook is the access to 18 acres of lush outdoor space. Dogs are welcome here, and our pups have access to the outdoor lawn, outdoor restaurant, and all grounds—there’s even a trail near the wetlands where we can walk the dog.
For dinner, we ate at the Copperleaf Restaurant and Baraut’s outdoor patio, where the kids could join us to enjoy a refreshing evening surrounded by greenery. There’s even a wood-burning fireplace to give it a true Northwest feel. The food is inspired by the season, and most of the vegetables are grown and harvested at the lodge. We ordered risotto, octopus, roast duck and salmon for dinner. All the dishes are well prepared and prepared accordingly. The food was great and we didn’t even have to leave after checking in.
After dinner, we strolled along the wetlands at sunset before heading back to our room and calling it a day. A chance for a well-earned escape from the long drive.
For our first full day in Seattle, we thought it best to tackle all the major attractions from the beginning. We grabbed coffee and pastries for breakfast at Cedarbrook and left. We went to a famous Vietnamese coffee shop called Coffeeholic House in downtown Columbia – 20 minutes from Cedarbrook – to give us more energy for the next day. We ordered a Purple Haze drink, and it was probably one of the best ube lattes we’ve ever had.
