Best Hiking Vacations With Dogs – Walking dogs (and cats, and even rabbits or other pets) has become very popular in Washington State. It is a major attraction for people from out of state, whether they are moving or visiting.
Most Washington state parks are pet-friendly, so you don’t have to look far to find a good place to go.

Located on Puget Sound, this 431-acre park is a campground for overnight trips and beach access. When the tide is out, there are many sandy beaches to visit and some unique paths to walk.

There are four national parks in Washington State and the general rule is that dogs can go anywhere there are cars. So there will be no access to roads or buildings. But there are some areas and exceptions where your dog can also enjoy our state’s national parks.

A very dog-friendly national park, the park has a collection of historic sites and state parks in Washington and Oregon, and dogs are allowed not only on all trails but also on the fort’s parade grounds. However, they are prohibited inside all public buildings, including the rooms of the replica castle and the visitor center (carpeted areas outside the bathroom lobby).
Dogs and other pets are generally allowed on US Forest Service trails with some exceptions. Two such areas are the popular but very fragile Enchantments Trail and the Ingalls Lake Trail. Most other traps are fine but, as always, your pet must be safely leashed.
With more than 1,100 miles of trails, DNR lands are a great way to explore and enjoy your dog or other pet. However, always check the posted signs to see if pets are allowed.
