Bright is also an increasingly popular destination among dog owners. This small town in the High Country region has dog-friendly hiking trails. But for something else, you should consider biking with your dog.
There are a number of cycling trails near Bright, including the Murray to the Mountains Railway Trail which starts nearby. And if you don’t have your own bike, there are plenty of bike rental shops in the city. At least one of them, Electric Bikes, also rents dog trailers, although other shops may have them available if you ask directly. Double check any weight limits.
A popular option for novice cyclists is Wandiligong’s relatively flat cycle path, just 5.5km from Bright and up to the Nightingale Bros apple orchard. Afterwards, enjoy a dip in the Oven River or a local beer at Bright Brewery.

To get to Raymond Island, I recommend parking in Paynesville and taking the short ferry ride for free as a pedestrian. The Koala Trail starts in front of the ferry terminal and is completed on foot for a chance to see koalas.
The main trail is 1.2 km long, although there are some major variations. To support local volunteers, you may consider purchasing a brochure at the launch site or donating on the website. Be sure to keep your dog on a leash at all times, but if your dog is anything like ours, they may not know what’s sleeping in the gum trees!
Paddle steamers aren’t the only dog-friendly form of historic transport in Victoria, with several dog-friendly historic train tours available. Near Melbourne, ride an old-fashioned steam train on the Victorian Goldfield Railway, which connects the goldfield towns of Castlemaine and Maldon.
