Autumn is the first to take to the trail to enjoy the beautiful scenery.
From local shops to beautiful parks and trails, there are plenty of pet-friendly things to do in the Amish country of northern Indiana. Try Shipshewana Trading Place, where leashed pups can browse the Midwest’s largest flea market near you. Just a warning: after a weekend of learning about the Amish way of life, you may find it difficult to return to the busy city.
Wisconsin is the perfect place to take “cheesy” vacation photos with your dog! Most restaurants allow dogs on their patios, and many excellent bed and breakfasts also welcome them. This resort pampers puppies like people, so you can relax and rejuvenate together. If you’re feeling less R&R and more outdoors, head to Big Foot Beach State Park near Geneva Lake.

In our six-plus years of RVing with our pets, when I think of the place that amazes me the most, it’s clawing down the chalk pyramids of Kansas. Not many travelers know about this destination, but now the secret is out! On the western edge of Gove County in Kansas is Monument Rocks. It is a series of large limestone monoliths known as the Limestone Pyramids. The dogs are allowed on a leash and you will feel like you are on another planet. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience.
As we are from Florida, we love to be at the beach! But after visiting Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and Brickle and Digby, I can now understand lake life! Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore features sandy beaches and cliffs above Lake Michigan. As with many areas, there are some beaches where dogs are not allowed, so check with the friendly park staff, find a map or search online. We discovered that there are more places Brickle and Digby can go on the shores of this picturesque lake than we expected. But note that dogs are not allowed to climb the dunes for safety reasons.
Your dog will feel as tall as Paul Bunyan when he takes you to Bemidji, Minnesota! It was a fun stop on the trip. Find the giant Paul Bunyan and Babe Blue Ox statue for a spectacular photo opportunity. This roadside attraction has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1988.
