To ensure that all flowers are non-toxic to your pet, it is recommended to buy individual bouquets rather than pre-made ones. Unfortunately, pre-made bouquets often do not list all the flowers used by name. Remember that like most plants, flowers can cause stomach upset in your dog or cat.

Here is a list of safe non-toxic flowers that you can mix and match to create your own flower arrangements and place them among your favorites.

Roses are a classic and safe choice for dogs and cats. Not only does it smell great, but you also don’t have to worry about fallen petals that could cause serious illness to your pet if accidentally ingested or chewed. Roses are available in several colors, so they are suitable for any occasion. If your rose bouquets have thorns, it is recommended to remove them or hide them with tall vases.

These bright and attractive flowers will attract your cat’s attention and may tempt her to play or bite the petals. If ingested by your curious dog or cat, the flowers may cause mild stomach irritation, but will not cause major health problems. Either way, if you notice your pet eating any flower, it’s best to stop immediately.

These beautiful monosymmetric (both halves mirror each other) flowers are not only stylish but also safe around dogs and cats. Orchids are tall, tubular structures and each flower has three silk petals. One of the most popular Mother’s Day gifts is a beautiful bouquet!

Flower Names For Dogs That Are Always In Bloom

If your mom is also a pet parent, be sure to plan Mother’s Day. Not all flowers are safe for our pets, but don’t worry, the Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) has compiled a handy list of pet-safe flowers to help you keep your furry friends safe, sound and healthy. Out of danger.

Roses (Rosa sp.), like all flowers, can cause mild stomach upset but are not toxic to pets. But watch out for the thorn! These can potentially injure the mouth and paws. If your pet is chewing on a rose stem and is showing signs of increased drooling or retching in the mouth, examine the mouth for signs of trauma. If they refuse to eat, a visit to the vet is recommended. Consuming large amounts of flower stem material may pose a risk of foreign body obstruction.

Gerbera daisies (Gebera jamesonii) are also known as African daisies, Veldt daisies and Barberton daisies. As with any plant material, vomiting or gastrointestinal distress may occur after ingestion, but if symptoms worsen or seem mild, see your veterinarian.

Sunflowers (Helianthus sp.) are a surefire way to brighten up Mother’s Day, and who doesn’t love such a cheery flower? Snapdragon (Antirrhinum majus) is a beautiful flower to decorate a plate. These flowers, while edible, do not have much flavor and can be slightly bitter. Cats and dogs may drool over the bitter taste. Give them something tasty to offset the taste and they’ll be fine.

Freesias (Freesia corymbosa) are used as fillers in many bouquets to add a little charm. Like the other flowers on this list, they are not poisonous, except that our pets ingest them for upset stomachs.

Limonium (Limonium sp.) and statis (Limonium leptostachyum) are safe filler flowers that can also be used in a Mother’s Day bouquet. These will brighten up any system you give your mother and are unlikely to cause serious problems if swallowed by your pet.
