A popular resort for many years, Palm Springs is known for its natural hot springs, hotels, restaurants, golf courses, sunny weather, and – of course – dog friendliness.

Downtown Palm Springs is always evolving with new shops, restaurants, hotels and neighborhoods, such as the development of the northern part as the Uptown Design District. The annual Coachella and Stagecoach festivals have drawn attention to the desert cities, and January’s Palm Springs International Film Festival is attracting big names and growing numbers of visitors.

“Greater Palm Springs” includes eight cities in addition to Palm Springs: Desert Hot Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, LaQuinta, Indio and Coachella. Tourism is the area’s biggest contributor to the local economy. I recommend staying in Palm Springs and exploring these other cities by car. Palm Desert has a nice outdoor mall and Indio/Coachella can be great for a photo shoot or if you’re attending a festival (without your dog).

We have been to many dog friendly places and when I say Palm Springs is the most dog friendly place we have been – I mean it! It’s hard to explain, but there was just a sense of welcome wherever Ruby and I went, and hopefully that will come through in this comprehensive guide.

The weather in Palm Springs is probably year-round, but there is a certain time that is considered the best to visit – winter and early spring. Palm Springs feels extra special in the winter months, which are November through January, because while the rest of the country is dealing with freezing temperatures and snow, Palm Springs puts on a show with sunshine and 65-75 degrees.

Canyon Club Hotel

If youare traveling to Palm Springs with your dog, I do not recommend visiting after March. Unless your only plan is to be at the pool the entire time during your visit. Summer temperatures are usually around 100℉ and can reach up to 115℉, with less than 10% humidity.

Living in Palm Springs and the surrounding desert areas is the perfect atmosphere and one of my favorite things about visiting this city. I’m a big fan of mid-century modern architecture and desert luxury, so I’d be in heaven just to have a hotel and apartment to rent in the area.

If you want to stay in the heart of Palm Springs, on and around Palm Canyon Dr. and Indian Canyon Dr. which are optimal for walking to shops and restaurants. Check out ARRIVE Palm Springs, Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs, The Colony Palms Hotel & Bungalows, and The Saguaro Palm Springs.

If yourpreferred accommodation is a house rental – we’re always fans of a kitchen and direct access to the outdoors – head over to AirBnB or VRBO and turn on the pet feature. These are some of the apartments I have kept on my wish list. The photos below were taken while we stayed at Mesa Tavira in Joshua Tree for the weekend. You can find a full tour of the house on Instagram.

A Place In The Sun Garden Hotel 4⋆ ::: Palm Springs, United States ::: Compare Hotel Rates

Palm Springs has always been a dog-loving town, and with 354 days of sunshine each year, there are plenty of things to do that will welcome your dog with open arms.

Boozehounds Palm Springs was founded by three friends for one simple reason… they love dogs and dreamed of owning a place where people could take their puppies, enjoy a great cocktail or great meal, and hang out in style. This is the dog-friendly restaurant we’ve ever visited for two reasons: 1) the dog menu is elite and offers fresh food suitable for those with frequent protein allergies, and 2) dogs can eat in their atrium, which is perfect. when visiting in the winter months. We love eating here for brunch and you can get an inside look at our visit on Instagram.

4 Paws Coffee Co. is another dog-themed establishment in Palm Springs that you should check out. As soon as we walked through the door, we were greeted with open arms and the cafe is decorated with dog-centric decorations and merchandise. We enjoyed cake and coffee in the cafe with Rue while she indulged in a cuppa puppy. Purchases from the cafe help support their efforts to give back to local shelters, as well as further their goal of bringing great coffee, food and connections to the Palm Springs community.

Moorten Botanical Garden is a private arboretum created to share the beauty and exceptional varieties of desert plants with all visitors. Exceptional desert trees, plants and cacti come from all over the world and range in size from miniature to gigantic. They are home to the world’s first cactus – my favorite part of the garden – and they allow dogs on leashes throughout the garden.

Garden parking is on the corner across the street from the S Palm Canyon Dr. entrance. Admission is $5/person and dogs are free. This small garden can be explored in 30 minutes with a leisurely stroll around the property. We spent a bit more time here because I was obsessed with taking pictures in cacti. If you visit during the week, you should be lucky with little to no crowds.

Something unique about Southern California is all the wind turbine fields. They actually have an official tour in Palm Springs to take a closer look, but I’m not sure if they allow dogs. We chose self-exploration.

To see the background below, take Indian Canyon Drive and Garnett from I-10. If you are driving north on Indian Canyon, take a left on Garnett and go maybe 1/4
